What becomes of an island overlooking a national marine park, home to virgin tropical rainforests, and providing exclusive access to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches? A hot tourist destination of course! If you are still wondering, we are talking about Boca Chica, an exclusive island in the Chiriqui National Marine Park along the Costa Rican border. Be with us as we take you on a short tour of Boca Chica.

Driving along the Inter-American Highway, you should be heading in the direction of an obscure town called Hornocitos, which is your passage to the island destination. From Hornocitos, Boca Chica is a 30-minute drive along a dirt track. From here, a short boat ride takes you to Boca Brava and the other islands of Chiriqui.

You’ll be overwhelmed by the abundance of entertainment options you have at Boca Chica. The tranquil waters reflecting off the azure sky sets off the right ambience for your holiday. The island is a postcard image of tall palms rising high above the powdery white sand to kiss the serene blue sky; it’s difficult to be part of such pristine settings and not be romantic. Isla Bolanos is recommended for beaching on idyllic islands.

Boca Chica has dense tropical forests which are home to exotic flora and fauna. An extensive coastline with well developed areas for fishing, diving, and snorkeling throws open the flood gates for adventure and fun in the islands. With crystal clear water and sprawling marine life, the waters around Isla Las Ladrones and Islas Secas are ideal for scuba diving. These islands are about 25 miles southeast of Boca Brava counting them among the farthest places to access.

Being in Boca Chica, you have easy access to rich and diverse sea life; it is difficult to not indulge in sport fishing in the deep seas. Hire a fishing charter or go on an excursion into the deep waters get a taste of the world’s best fishing grounds. You’ll be surprised if, in Hannibal Bank and Coiba Island, a Black Marlin or a Yellow Fin Tuna does not hook into your bait every other time. Other fish species such as the Blue Marlin, Pacific Sailfish, and Dorado are seasonal and found in abundance mostly between November and April.

If you are a novice or if you are not a deep sea person, the lagoon-like beach with an even floor for hundreds of feet inside provides the ideal launch pad. Nothing but sea urchins will obstruct your evening walk in the warm waters enjoying the sunset.

The variety of accommodation options available will pamper you for choice. From eco-boutique hotels to ocean front bungalows to fishing lodges, Boca Chica is hospitality at its best. These exclusive stay options certainly add spice to your stay in this beautiful island.

The Cala Mia Boutique Hotel is a solar powered eco-boutique hotel where tourists are seen walking around bare feet and without worrying about locking up their stuff. The restaurant in the premises is known for serving exotic cuisine. The hotel has a spa and a yoga center.

The Seagullcove Lodge is a European-style resort that serves excellent Italian cuisine. The other attractions of this tucked-away ocean front resort are a private beach and five fully-equipped suites with satellite TV connection.

Vacationers at Gone Fishing have plenty to do: snorkeling, whale watching, sailing, swimming, beaching, and fishing. There are other stay options as well at Boca Chica suiting your tastes and preferences making the place a veritable must-see vacation paradise.
