Summit National Park

Overview
Summit is a small national park inside of Soberania Park.  The park is actually a zoo featuring over 15,000 species of exotic plants and animals.

Many of them are on the endangered species list.  The Harpy Eagle, Panama's national bird, is among those endangered species and is a currently being bred in captivity there.  The park was founded in 1923 when the Summit Experimental Farm was established for researching tropical flora of Panama.

 

How to Get From Panama City to Summit National Park

You can take the train, bus or drive 25 minutes from Panama City on the Gamboa road to the Summit.

 

What to do in Summit National Park

Observe the incredible variety of rare and endangered animals.  You can see Jaguars, Alligators and the Harpy Eagle.  See the giant cage used to house two Harpy Eagles. It is probably the largest in the world.  This is an amazing zoo and it really is a must visit on your trip to Panama.

 

Services Near Summit National Park

The Park itself is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It has a restaurant, recreation area, the zoo and an auditorium.  It also has a breeding center for over 240 species of flora.  Admission is $1.00 for those who are 12 years of age or older.  Kids get in for 0.25 us dollars.
