Day 1: Leaving Panama City After enjoying a fresh cup of Panamanian coffee head to the bus station and take a one way ticket to El Valle de Anton. The bus ride takes about 2 hours. When you arrive at El Valle de Anton you will discover a picture perfect little town located in the crater of an extinct volcano. This is the second largest inhabited volcano in the world. This little town is famous for its handicraft and culture as well as its interesting formations and waterfalls. When you first get to Valle check in have another cup of coffee to before going on a hike. The sleeping Indian Mountain will take you down a ridge along the volcano for a full 5 mile hike. When you are done you can hike back to town and enjoy a good old fashioned pizza. Stay overnight in El Valle. Day 2: Chitre Chitre is famous in Panama as it was the site of the Panamanian Declaration of Independence in 1821. Chitre is sometimes referred to as Los Santos and hosts two main celebrations throughout the year. One of them is the November 10 which celebrates the "cry of independence" and the other is during the Corpus Christi fiesta in late May or early June. You can find old baroque altars featuring exquisite carvings at the Church of San Anastacio. Visit the eighteenth century house where the declaration of independence was signed and observe the handicraft and agricultural tools. You may also find in town a small collection of colonial art and old documents related to the declaration of independence. Stay in Chitre for the night. Day 3: Cerro Punta Tour Start the day off with a good breakfast followed by a bus ride to David and then to Cerro Punta. Cerro Punta is located in the foothills of the famous Baru Volcano. The landscape here is a bit different than the rest of Panama. We will drive to Caldera river and visit the base of the volcano. This particular area is cool and pleasant and grows great coffee. Around dusk you might see some Quetzals as they make their nightly migration. Stay overnight in Cerro Punta. Day 4: Los Quetzales Trail Start off with a good breakfast and hike from Boquete to Cerro Punta along the Los Quetzales Trail. The hike is a good six hours. The trail is widely known and officially recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The trail is named after the beautiful and rare tropical bird Resplendent Quetzal. The weather is similar to Boquete and there are a number of trails featuring excellent birding. There are at least 400 species of birds on the check list and over 100 species of mammals not to mention the over 2500 species of flora. Truly a natural paradise full of fichus trees, orchids, bromeliads and many other wild relative of tropical houseplants. Stay overnight in Boquete. Day 5: Bocas del Toro Start off with a good breakfast and head to Almirante where you will board a boat to Isla Colon in Bocas del Toro. This is where the beach meets the rainforest in a town that is largely English speaking. Beautiful beaches and lush rainforest's give the town a relaxing feel. You will lodge here for the night before heading of to Bastimentos Marine National Park. Day 6: Bastimentos Marine National Park Bastimentos is Panama's first Marine Park. Go snorkeling near the most exquisite reefs in the Caribbean and watch for colorful tropical fish. As we hike the trails between the beaches you may even see a red poison dart frog which is very popular with our tourists. Day 7: Return to Panama City In the early evening you will fly back to Panama City and enjoy a nice dinner at a good restaurant after a week of tropical hiking.
